At NHECHS, we are committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence, personal responsibility, and strong partnerships between school and home. As an early college campus, students are held to both high school and college standards. Below are key expectations for students and families:
Daily Attendance & Punctuality
Students are expected to attend school every day and arrive on time. Regular attendance is critical to success in both high school and college classes.
-
Houston City College (HCC) allows only two absences per course. Exceeding this limit may result in a withdrawal (W) on the student's college transcript, which can negatively affect their GPA and future financial aid eligibility.
-
Families must communicate promptly with the school if a student will be absent.
Academic Integrity
All students must uphold honesty and integrity in their academic work.
-
Plagiarism, cheating, or copying work will result in disciplinary action and may jeopardize both high school and college credit.
-
Students are expected to complete all assignments independently and follow the guidelines set by both their high school and college instructors.
Family Communication & Involvement
We believe that student success is a shared responsibility between school and home.
Dress Code
Students must adhere to the campus dress code and maintain a professional appearance—especially during college classes, field trips, or events representing the school.
College-Level Behavior
As early college students, Red Hawks are expected to act with maturity, respect, and responsibility.
-
Students represent both NHECHS and Houston Community College.
-
Behavior expectations extend beyond the classroom, including on college campuses and virtual platforms.
Responsible Use of Technology
Students are issued Chromebooks and are expected to:
-
Bring their devices charged and ready each day
-
Use technology only for academic purposes
-
Follow all digital citizenship guidelines
Misuse of technology may result in restricted access or disciplinary action.
College & Career Readiness
Participation in college and career activities is a key part of our program.
-
Students are required to attend college visits, workshops, enrichment programs, and academic events designed to prepare them for postsecondary success.
Academic Support & Intervention
Students who fall behind or need additional help are expected to:
-
Attend tutorials, intervention blocks, or Saturday school as assigned
-
Take ownership of their progress by checking in with teachers and using available support resources
At NHECHS, we believe that holding students to high standards—academically, behaviorally, and personally—prepares them for success in college and life. Together, we can help every Red Hawk soar.
